IN HONOR OF C. REX WITHERSPOON, DDS

Dr. C. Rex Witherspoon, the founder of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Group, Ltd., began practicing in Springfield since 1952. He grew up in Springfield and did active duty in the U.S. Navy. He attended Drury University in Springfield, completed his dental education at Washington University School of Dental Medicine, his post-graduate in Oral Surgery at University of Chicago and his Oral Surgery Fellowship with Dr. G. Farrell Webb in Kansas City. In addition to his vast experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Witherspoon aided in the founding of St. John’s Regional Health Center’s Oncology (Cancer Care) Dental Support Program. He served a decade as editor of the Missouri Dental Journal; as president of the Missouri and Midwestern Associations of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. In addition, Dr. Witherspoon was honored as Dentist of the Year in Missouri and distinguished alumnus, Washington University School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Witherspoon was also a very active member of the Springfield community. He served as President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and was on the Board of Directors for the Springfield Rotary Club, the Springfield YMCA, Salvation Army, United Way, Burrell Mental Health Center, Boy Scouts of America, American Cancer Society, and Ozark Counseling Center.

Dr. Witherspoon’s interests included golf and travel. He was married to Jan Witherspoon and had five children.
